Make a Personalized Scarecrow

Are you ready for Fall? I’m not..although cool weather, mosquitoless nights and pumpkin coffee do make me very happy! But it’s hard to feel Fall, when it’s 90 degrees and humid! But fortunately this month’s Home Decor Silhouette Challenge motivated me to think ahead and start planning for the cooler days ahead! For this months challenge, I took a cheap scarecrow (they are like $5/6 at most craft/hardware stores) and I personalized him! See how I used PAINT STIRRERS to make a personalized welcome sign! (And then check out my 21 Silhouette Buddies!) get ready for fall! Make a personalized scarecrow from paint stirrers! Want one of your own? It’s simple and cheap! You Need:

  • 6 Paint Stirrers (free with your next paint purchase or found in your basement  )
  • Contact Paper
  • Modge Podge
  • Paint
  • Sponge Brush
  • Hot Glue & Gun
  • Scarecrow

First, lay out your 4 stirrers & hot glue them together. I rested them on a shoebox lid, it worked great!

Cut down 2 of the paint stirrers into 3rds, and hot glue them onto the back to make your sign sturdy.

I decided to try something new for this project, so I used contact paper as my stencil! And it worked great!! I followed Mandys advice over at Sugar Bee Crafts and modge podged the stencil BEFORE applying the paint. (So remove your stencil carefully from the backing, make sure everything is flat, modge podge it, and let it dry overnight).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The next morning, I carefully painted it with a foam brush. (remember… dab, dab, dab)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALet it dry and peel it back carefully!

And now you have yourself a sign! (But don’t look to closely at the N and S, it seems my bottom stirrers had a bit of a gap so my seal wasn’t as tight as it needed to be.

Lastly, hot glue it onto your scarecrows hands and you are done!
