I love holiday cards! It’s nice to receive happy mail instead of the piles (and piles) of bills that tend to come oh so very frequently. But there’s one problem ….where the heck do you put them all? I tried the window sill, the mirror, and even the fridge! But the results were messy.
But all of that changes with this months Silhouette Challenge, Because I added functional holiday cheer to a boring wall! And if holiday decorating doesn’t get you excited my giveaway should you have a chance to WIN a Silhouette Cameo, a Silhouette Mint AND A $50 Amazon Giftcard! (SQUEAL!!!!!!)
You Need:
- 15 Ft Garland (I bought mine for $4 at Walmart)
- Vinyl Scraps
- Silhouette Machine
- Tape
To Make It You Should:
- Find the center of the wall, cut (about) 1 ft of the garland, and tape it to the wall
- Cut a larger piece of garland and tape below
- Continue down the wall until your space is filled and/or you run out of garland
- Open your Silhouette Software and design a few ornaments. I used 3 different styles and 3 different colors to create some uniformity.
- Check your cut lines!
- Now load your vinyl into your Silhouette Machine and click the vinyl setting. Since this is going on your wall you want to use a temporary vinyl (oracle 631)
- Weed your design and repeat the steps with the other vinyl colors
- My crafting partner (the 4 year old) wanted to decorate the ornaments so we also cut some circles & snowflakes out of the scraps.
- Time to adhere the images! Since the ornaments are simple I did not use transfer tape. I carefully lifted the design with my pick and added it to the wall – First the ornament and then the silver string/hook
- Once my vinyl was applied I taped up the Holiday Cards that we’ve received so far.
My favorite part of the Christmas Card Tree is that it looks good no matter how many cards you have, which means it’s ok if your friends take forever to get theirs in the mail 😉
Want to make your own? Here are a few tips before you get started:
- Garland is super flimsy and breaks easily so handle it carefully.
- Apply extra tape, I added a tape ball ever 4″ (just about)
Now before you go see what my Silhouette Buddies are up to I need to thank Thyme is Honey on her Washi Tree display that’s the post that got my crafting wheels turning!
