Bedtime Stories

I just put Jo to bed and it got me thinking about bed time stories. What makes a good one? Is it the length  the content, maybe the graphics or the word count?

I don’t know about you, but I feel like I have the same books on rotation night after night (even though we have TONS to choose from).  There just seems to be a difference between daytime books and nighttime books, and then of course our moods get a vote too is it a long book night (aka when you need to lull them to sleep or hope they get so annoyed at your terrible singing voice that they want their bed) or will short book do the trick?

Well no matter what the rhyme or reason, here are a few of my typical go to books:

i love u
This one is my favorite!! It’s short and sweet.. but provides TONS of opportunity to tell your little one how much you love them.

There is just something about Dr. Seuss that is entertaining. Our favorite part of this book is the inside & back cover pages. It is just one big alphabet. So whenever we read this book, we first need to point and sing our ABC’s (twice). It’s funny to watch her belt out the song… she has the tune down, just the letters haven’t all been figured out yet.
I would’ve thought that I’d hate this book.. I may have the first few times I read it. But it’s a classic.. and well I guess it grew on me!

This miniature book of rhymes seems to be the perfect length  However, I’ll let you in  on a little secret, I  tend to skip B-I-N-G-O. Something about clapping at bedtime that seems to be like a bad idea.

What are your favorites? I’d love some suggestions to expand our library!!

  1. “Goodnight Moon” is a family favorite, always. My eldest son (he is almost 7) has enjoyed “The Trusty, Rusty Tractor” since he was about 18 months old. It is a sweet story about a grandfather, his grandson, and the rusty old tractor. I highly recommend it.
